Locals and tourists in India's resort town of Manali in the north were thrilled to have snow. The first snowfall of the season arrived on Monday the 9th, after a long dry spell.

[Anitha, Tourist]:
"Today, this place is looking wonderful. Yesterday when we came here it was all green. But today when we get up, it started snowing. Now it is full of snow. It looks really good and we are extremely happy."

Tourists braved cold winds and dipping temperatures as they trudged through snow-covered roads.

The region is expecting many tourists in the coming season.

Manali gets nearly 60 percent of the six million tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh every year.

Manali is a popular summer hill resort, but also doubles as a winter getaway.
