Heavy Flooding Causes Northern Philippine Evacuation

2009-11-05 11:27

More than 6,600 families in the rice-producing province of Isabela… have been evacuated as non-stop rains submerged villages in up to head-deep floods.

The heavy rains also caused rivers to overflow, blocking many roads and bridges in the province.

Some residents had to rely on small boats to evacuate.

Land and mudslides were also recorded, while some towns experienced a power outage.

The disaster council has alerted communities in Isabela to closely monitor water levels of the Cagayan River, which cuts across the province.

Floodwaters isolated a village trapping around 30 families who were rescued and moved to an evacuation center.
