A worker named Ajit Yadav died in a clash between factory workers who were on strike and those who wanted to get back to work on Sunday.
The striking workers are demanding recognition of a union and wanted to discuss their demands with management.
According to trade union officials, about 80,000 workers from more than 60 companies in the area have joined the strike since Yadav was killed.
Members of the All India Trade Union Congress threatened to extend the strike to factories all across the Gurgaon-Manesar industrial belt. They say they’ll step back only if strict and early action is taken against those responsible for the death and injuries to company employees.
