Chinese Man Sentenced to Death for Role in Factory Brawl

Xiao Jianhua was sentenced to death after being accused of instigating the factory fight. Authorities say Xiao encouraged coworkers to join the brawl, and to block medical staff from treating the injured.
A statement from the court said Xiao and his colleagues used iron bars to beat the Uighurs, killing two, and injuring nine others—three of them seriously.
The brawl, in a toy factory in Shaoguan in Guangdong Province, is said to have sparked the deadly riots that erupted in China’s Xinjiang region on July 5—riots that left hundreds dead.
