Student Protest Turns Violent in India

Baton wielding police charged hundreds of students who were protesting at a university in Allahabad city on Wednesday the 9th.
The students of Allahabad Central University were staging a demonstration to demand the formation of a students' council. They were joined by other students from various colleges in Allahabad city.
[Sandeep Satya, Allahabad Central University Students' Union]:
"Today all the students got together at the vice chancellor's chamber to protest against the non formation of a students' council. During the protest the corrupt vice chancellor called in the police and the students were charged with batons. Many students have been injured and following this students vandalized some vehicles in retaliation."
The protest almost lasted two hours. More than a dozen students were injured in the baton charge. And in response, the students damaged the vehicles that were parked in the area.
