2009-09-09 10:41

Airline passengers across India are having to bear the brunt of a Jet Airways pilot walk off, now in its second day.

Hundreds of domestic and international passengers are stranded in airports across the county where angry confrontations are flaring up.

the walk off was sparked when Jet Airways fired two pilots from the company. Now the National Aviators' Guild, a union of pilots, is demanding their reinstatement.

The union has threatened to go on a formal strike if its demands are not met.

The airline has since sacked three more pilots.

On Tuesday the 8th Mumbai's High Court asked the pilots to restrain from going on any kind of strike.

Meanwhile, travelers' plans have fallen apart.

[Dushyant Pratap Singh, Travel Agent]:
"Some of our guests were traveling to Khajuraho from Jet Airways. They (Jet Airways) are saying they are not providing us (the flight), they are providing us the full refund, or an alternative flight for tomorrow... Obviously we are facing inconvenience, because our guests' tour would get delayed."

The airline has already issued a list of 179 flights that were canceled on Wednesday, September 9th.

"I booked my flight yesterday evening. They knew the situation - that the strike is going on and flights are being canceled. Knowing this, they should not have given any bookings. This morning I came here and learned that the flight has been canceled.”

Jet Airways has canceled several flights till noon but flights to Europe, the UK and North America will run as scheduled.
