36-year-old and unemployed Andrew Hoods from Sydney confessed to trying to smuggle three kilograms of heroin out of Thailand.
Hood was trying to board a flight leaving from the Bangkok International Airport in December 2008.
He was stopped and arrested with 12 packages of drugs strapped to his body and charged with drug smuggling.
After his arrest, Hoods said he took the risk to raise money for his daughter.
Since he pleaded guilty in court, his sentenced was reduced from the death penalty to life imprisonment.
