Encouraged by the profits generated by peppermint, several farmers in northern India have taken to peppermint farming. The fertile soil found in the northern region is most suitable for growing peppermint.

Some farmers have even set up distillation plants where peppermint oil is extracted and sold at a good price.

[Om Prakash, Peppermint Grower]:
"Once we take out the oil, we take it to the market and sell it at 535 rupees per kilogram.”

Farmers say that the crop is beneficial to them because it can be harvested over a short period with minimum labor.

[Anil Kumar Verma, Peppermint Grower]:
"The crop is beneficial to us because it takes little time and effort. After harvesting wheat, we sow the peppermint. We utilize our extra time in farming peppermint and make extra money."

Peppermint could be used for various medicinal purposes.

[Muneerudin, Deputy Director, Health Department, Faizabad]:
"Peppermint is made out of oil and when peppermint is made according to its IP standard then it can be used as one of the ingredients of some medicines. It is also used in various ointments, candies, oils because it has a soothing effect and makes one feel better."
