Rescuers continue to pull survivors and dead bodies to shore, two days after an overloaded boat capsized, killing at least 18.

Dominican Republic officials said about 60 people were aboard the immigrant smuggling boat.

They left on Saturday, bound for the neighbouring island of Puerto Rico, but capsized in the Bay of Samana.

Authorities said 19 passengers were rescued with 20 or more others still missing.

Families gathered on a beach hoping their loved ones can be found.

Many complained too little is being done to help.

[Sergio Pimente, Father of Missing Man]:
"Here there are just divers and fishermen searching for the people. If there were drugs inside, they would have brought 100,000 planes and helicopters, if there were drugs in there. Sadly we are just poor people and nobody looks out for us."

The rescue effort continued throughout the day, though hope was fading that any more survivors would be found.

Authorities said the captain of the capsized vessel had been detained and was being questioned.
