Brazilian Highway Crash Leaves 33 Dead
A large semi-trailer truck and a passenger bus crashed head-on early on Saturday (December 3) in Brazil's northeast region, killing at least 33 people.
Police say the truck driver lost control of the vehicle as he was heading down a hill after making a turn on a three-lane highway near the city of Milagres in Bahia state.
Authorities say the bus wasn't registered by the organization that regulates public transportation and was travelling on a Brazil Justice permit.
The truck was loaded with construction materials when it slammed into the bus.
The bus carrying sugarcane cutters was passing another truck on its left at the time.
At least 11 people were taken to hospital, 3 in serious condition.
The bus driver died in the accident while the truck driver was hospitalized.
