Jan Brewer, the Republican Governor of Arizona, appeared to argue with President Obama as he disembarked from Air Force One in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday January 25th. Pictures show Brewer in what looked like a heated conversation with Obama, her finger pointed at his face. Brewer was also seen handing a letter to the President.

Brewer says she simply wanted to welcome Obama to Arizona, but he immediately raised his dissatisfaction with her portrayal of him in her book Scorpions For Breakfast. Brewer said in an interview with Fox News that the book was “factual” and “true,” and that Brewer and Obama simply disagreed on certain policies, notably immigration and border control. Brewer says the two had already agreed to disagree over these policies and called the President “thin-skinned” for taking offense to her criticism of his calls for an immigration amnesty.

Arizona borders Mexico and thus border control in a hot topic in local politics. Jan Brewer takes a tough stance on the issue. Arizona has voted Republican in three out of the four most recent presidential elections, yet the state does have a large Latin American population, who may feel threatened by Brewer’s hard line stance. The Latin American vote may be enough to swing the result in Obama’s favor in the 2012 presidential elections this fall.
