It’s the Year of the Dragon, and to celebrate, a new stamp has been issued by the United States Postal Service. New York-based Chinese artist Kam Mak designed it.

Growing up in Hong Kong, Kam Mak has always had a fascination with the dragon.

[Kam Mak, Lunar New Year Stamp Designer]:
“Like the lion dance, the dragon dance is another iconic event that takes place in the Lunar New Year. As a child I was once a part of it.”

This is the fifth year in a row he’s designed a stamp commemorating the Lunar New Year.

Meanwhile, another dragon stamp issued by the Chinese regime has been attracting strong criticism from Chinese netizens. The design by Chen Shaohua is being attacked for the aggressive, fierce design.

One Weibo post says, “Its body and claws are awkwardly positioned...I can’t tell if the dragon is playing with the pearl or is trying to scare people. The design is really a mess.”
