Spanish Golfer Rafael Cabrera-Bellowins the Dubai Desert Classic 2012 trophy.

This is the third year in a row that the Spanish players are winning the tournament.

On day one of the games, Rafael was on top of the list, but he was not confident of staying there.

[Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Golf Player];
“Im happy I had a good start, im happy to be leading at the moment but it really means nothing. There is still a lot of holes to play. so i need to play like i did today the rest of the week for me to have a chance.”

Although he was not the guaranteed winner, a lucky wind carried the ball and brought him the golden trophy.

Rafael managed to do a good job on a very windy day at the Majlis course of the Emirates Golf Club.

He said that he had lots of practice in windy weather, which gave him an edge over his competitors.

[Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Golf Player]:
"I live near Caribbean islands, they are also very windy islands so I am used to playing in wind. I have played good in the wind before so I think that maybe that helped me today."

Rafael also won a $416,660-dollar check.

Lee Westwood, world’s number three, played a tough game and competed with Rafael till the last moments of the games, but the strong winds were not on his side.
