Amateur Video Shows Bombardment of Homs, Syria

 Amateur video clips posted on a social media website on Thursday show Homs being hit by rocket and mortar fire. 

Footage shows members of the anti-government Free Syrian Army attacking a military checkpoint in Der Balba, Homs. It was not clear when the attack took place. 
 
Another clip showed smoke rising above an area of Baba Amro in Homs, followed by audio of a series of explosion.
 
Men run towards a house on fire, and another one had an audio of rocket being fired which, according to the voice recorded on camera, had hit the mosque. 
 
Activists and residents report hundreds of people killed over the last week as President Bashar al-Assad's forces stamp out opposition in Homs.
 
Neighborhoods of Homs remained without electricity, while water and basic supplies were running low.
 
The Syrian Human Rights Organization says this week's assault on Homs has killed at least 300 civilians and wounded 1,000, not counting Thursday's toll.
 
International officials have estimated the overall death toll in Syria since last March at more than 5,000.
 
The United Nations chief condemns the ferocity of the government assault that broke out nearly a year ago.
