An estimated 4000 protesters from Cairo's Tahrir Square on Tuesday marched on parliament where they clashed with Muslim Brotherhood supporters.

The Muslim Brotherhood is flexing its muscles after emerging as the country's dominant political force.

The brotherhood is devising a blueprint for a parliamentary democracy that would overturn Egypt's tradition of strong heads of state.

The Islamist movement took the biggest share of seats in parliament since the overthrow last February of Hosni Mubarak in a popular uprising.

It has the numbers to challenge the generals ruling Egypt.

Several Tahrir Square protesters were injured in Tuesday's clashes outside parliament.
