The European Court of Human Rights called for a public hearing on the case of ex-Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko in April last year.
[Igor Fomin, Lawyer of Yuriy Lutsenko]:
"We have two questions to the European Court of Human Rights. First, about his illegal arrest. Second - were there political motives, and a violation of law on the protection of Yuriy Lutsenko in considering this affair, in which it was decided to arrest Yuriy Lutsenko?"
The defendant filed a petition to the European Court in January last year. It was considered as a priority.
The hearings will be broadcast on the website of the European Court.
[Valentine Telichenko, Lawyer of Yuriy Lutsenko]:
"If the court determines that justice in the state is used with a political aim, then there is no reason to call this state democratic."
Kiev Pechersk court will make a verdict on the Yuriy Lutsenko case on February 27.
The Prosecutor General's Office accused the former interior minister in the accrual of unlawful retirement, promotion and allocation of housing to his driver, as well as the misuse of budget funds during the celebration of Police Day in 2008-2009.
