UK Supreme Court to Hear WikiLeaks’ Assange Case

Julian Assange, the controversial founder of whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks, is back in a British court.  

            

Judges here ruled that his fight against extradition to Sweden will go to the Supreme Court.   

           

On Monday he told supporters he was willing to wait for justice.

"Today, the High Court has decided that an issue that arises from my own case is of general public importance and may be of assistance to other cases and should be heard by the Supreme Court. I think that is a correct decision and I am thankful. The long struggle for justice, for me and others continues."    

          

Swedish authorities are looking to question the Australian national about rape and sexual assault accusations made by two former WikiLeaks volunteers.   

           

Assange, who has been fighting extradition for a year, now has 14 days to lodge an official appeal with the Supreme Court.   

          

He claims the charges are politically motivated for posting secret documents about the Iraq war and Afghan conflict online as well as secret U.S. government diplomatic cables.
