On Wednesday, temperatures in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous region of China reached a record low since the New Year. The subzero temperatures reached negative forty-nine degrees Fahrenheit. Heavy fog was also present in the area. Visibility was reduced to just under 100 feet on Wednesday morning, and cars and pedestrians soon retreated indoors to escape the severe cold. The cold is expected to continue through Friday.
