The Art of Zhen Shan Ren International Art exhibition is on display this week in Old Court House, Wollongong, Australia.

A series of prints, this exhibit by award winning artists has been seen in over 50 countries.

The Lord Mayor of Wollongong opened the exhibition.

[Gordon Bradbury, Lord Mayor, Wollongong]:
"I think its wonderful to look at how others express themselves, and how they, with the medium and the colors and the textures, add the symbols of imagery, and bring all these things together to represent their story."

The artists of the exhibition all practice a spiritual cultivation way of mind and body called Falun Dafa, which follows the principles of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance.

Practiced in over 100 countries around the world, the practice is banned in China, where many are persecuted and imprisoned by the Communist regime for their belief.

The Catholic Bishop of Wollongong was also at the art exhibition.

[Most Reverend Peter Ingham, Catholic Bishop, Wollongong]:
"The paintings are very real, particularly where people are suffering, and it's just, I mean it's the classic Communist way, they cannot tolerate anyone who has different ideology."

Founder of the exhibition, Professor Kunlun Zhang, from Ottawa, Canada, has had many paintings and sculptures exhibited worldwide.

According to Professor Zhang, these paintings are part of a historical mission "In raising human morality and  awakening people's conscience."

The Lord Mayor stressed the importance of the message conveyed in the artwork.

[Gordon Bradbury, Lord Mayor, Wollongong]:
"Truth, compassion and tolerance as far as I'm concerned, are three precepts that are most important for any society, that we always need to explore the frontiers of our understanding, whether it be of the Universe, the Creation, or whether it be our own self control, discipline, and the human mind."

The exhibition can be viewed in Melbourne in November.
