Two naturalized Americans and their Filipino relative are kidnapped while on vacation in the Philippines.

Fourteen armed gumen took a woman, her son and nephew from this beach house on an island in the south Tuesday, according to a local police chief.

A relative said the men told the family to lie on the floor while Gerfa Yeatts Lunsmann, her son Kevin Eric and nephew Romnick Jackaria were dragged to a boat.

[Hadji Atta Mohammad Nur, Village Chief]:

"We couldn't chase them because they were quite far. My men said they may have circled to the other side. So what we did was, we went around. So we went around, along with the police, but we didn't find them any more."

No one has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

Several Islamist rebel groups are active in the area, and last month the U.S., UK and Australia warned against travel to the southern Philippines.

Abu Sayyaf, one of the violent militant groups, is holding a dozen captives on two local islands.

Lunnsman, who was adopted by an American couple and is married to a German national, was visiting her hometown from Virginia.
