Exactly one week after a devastating earthquake rocked Christchurch, New Zealand, the country stands quiet to remember.

Friends and family from Christchurch to Wellington to Auckland observed two minutes of silence at 12:51 in the afternoon, the exact moment when the earthquake struck.

Urban rescue workers from around the world stopped to honor the fallen as well, for some the first chance to grasp the gravity of their work.

With clean up and recovery efforts continuing, funeral services are becoming an increasingly common occurrence.

The death toll now stands at 155 people, but is expected to go up possibly to 240.

For a country trying to return to normal, it will be a long road ahead.

As unsafe buildings come down, flags go up as the country does its best to keep spirits raised.
