NTDTV has won an appeal in France to petition for an investigation into the termination of its broadcast by French satellite company Eutelsat.

On Wednesday, following a hearing on June 15, the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Paris overturned an earlier decision by the Paris Commercial Court. It paves way for a court appointed investigator to find out the real cause of the termination.

On June 16, 2008, Eutelsat abruptly stopped NTD’s broadcast over mainland China. It said at the time the termination was due to a, “power anomaly” to its W5 Satellite.

However, on July 10th that same year, an investigation by Paris based Reporters Without Borders revealed the broadcast interruption was a pre-meditated political move to appease Chinese communist officials.

Established in 2002, NTDTV is the only independent Chinese-language television to broadcast into China. Its programs include topics that the Chinese Communist Party withholds from the public, such as human rights and environmental issues.
