STORY:

At least five people died and 16 were wounded in the attack, on the outskirts of Peshawar.

The blast occurred outside the home of a Pakistani official. He'd recently been involved in raising a militia to fight Islamist militants.

The official was entertaining friends at home when the bomb exploded, but was unhurt.

The blast came a day after Pakistan signed a pact with Islamists to introduce Sharia law in the Swat valley.

Close neighbors India are among those to express concerns at the deal.

But the Pakistani government hopes it will take the steam out of a Taliban uprising.

The blast is the latest in a string of attacks in the northwest.

They've intensified since government forces launched an offensive against militants in recent months.
