ZHANG:
Our top story today, another voice of support to restore NTD’s satellite broadcast to mainland China. NTD’s Seoul, South Korea team talks with the secretary general of the International Federation of Journalists.
STORY:
The International Federation of Journalists or IJF, visited Korea to investigate a large-scale layoff of journalists.
Right after the news conference, IJF secretary general Aidan White, says he knows all about NTD’s suspended broadcast in China.
[Aidan White, International Federation of Journalists]:
"We think that NTDTV should be allowed to broadcast freely, and it should be beamed into China. We are absolutely clear about that."
Mr. White says the Chinese Communists Party tried to show their desire of opening to the world by holding the Olympics. But, he says, blocking NTD is an ironic move.
[Aidan White, International Federation of Journalists]:
"They have, following the Olympics, indicated that they want to have more openness, and we welcome that, but I think that it will only be proved when they're ready to allow all voices to be heard, and that includes NTDTV."
Mr. White believes in time the situation will change.
[Aidan White, International Federation of Journalists]:
"We will continue to support you!"
The International Federation of Journalists was established in 1926. It has more than 600-thousand members in 150 countries.
