Wedding Bells for Fattest Man

10/27/2008 8:12:00 PM

STORY:
Remember Mexican Manuel Uribe, the world's heaviest man? Here he is, more than 400 pounds lighter, on his way to his wedding.

[Manuel Uribe, Groom]: (Spanish Male Soundbite)
"I'm very happy, this is a really special day for me. God has permitted this day to come and for a beautiful woman like Claudia to marry me. We will start a new adventure together."

Still a hefty 717 pounds - 326 kilos - the happy groom was hoisted onto a flat bed truck to meet his waiting bride.

He still can't move, his legs swollen from being confined to a reinforced bed for the past six years.

Uribe hit the headlines when he went on Mexican TV pleading for help to shed weight. He spurned offers of free gastric bypass operations - he'd had a tummy tuck go badly wrong - finally slimming down thanks to a high-protein, low-carb diet under a doctor's supervision.

His anxious but happy bride before the ceremony.

[Claudia Solis, Bride]: (Spanish Female Soundbite)
"We're very well, we're very happy. I was a little worried because they said we would not get here and I thought maybe something happened to him and no one wanted to tell me."

But all went well -- no pictures though because Manuel and Claudia's big day will soon be on the small screen, a production dubbed "My Big Fat Mexican Wedding."
