Congolese Refugees Crowd Camps

In Africa, renewed fighting in the Democratic Republic of Congo is sending civilians fleeing for their lives. Many have ended up in refugee camps, but are struggling to meet their basic needs. This weekend, a top UN official called the situation there a 'humanitarian crisis.' Now to Congo.
STORY:
At the eastern town of Kiwanja, at least 5000 displaced people have turned the town into an instant refugee camp. They're fleeing renewed fighting between rebels and government troops, but without basic necessities, there's not much relief in the camps.

"We are really struggling, we don't have clothes, we don't have utensils to cook with and we also don't have food."
Half of those displaced fled their homes in the last year, making this year Congo's worst refugee crisis in only a few years.
Antonio Guterres is the U.N. High Commissioner for refugees. He recently toured the Kasasa camp, which is still new and without much humanitarian support.
[Antonio Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Refugees]:
"The biggest challenge of course is that we are all out of proportion with our resources, with our capacity in relation to the dimensions of the problem. When 800,000 people are displaced in North Kivu in a population of not more than 5 million we can understand we are facing a huge humanitarian drama."
Guterres added that peace is necessary for people to be able to return home.
