And next our correspondent has feedback about Shen Yun's debut in Hartford on Saturday from a local Chinese language teacher.
STORY:
Peipei Champion teaches Chinese at six schools in Connecticut, including her own Chinese language school. She really enjoyed the traditional culture at Shen Yun’s debut performance in Hartford on Saturday.
[Peipei Champion, Chinese Language Teacher]:
“Today I brought some students here. They really enjoyed it. I think 5,000 years of culture, through our beautiful skilled performer, and artist, singer, present to the whole world, about how wonderful and how great ancient Chinese civilization is. It is a very great tool to reach out to the world.”
Miss Champion says the use of traditional Chinese characters is very important to her. The communist party in China has completely replaced traditional characters with simplified versions.
[Peipei Champion, Chinese Language Teacher]:
“So we can use the traditional Chinese character as a medium to learn about China, this only surviving language in this beautiful 5,000 years of culture.”
Shen Yun will be performing in Phoenix, Arizona next weekend. The two other touring companies are currently in Germany and Australia.
This is Ryan Mitchell, NTD, Hartford.
