CHAN:
There is a new way for party goers to chill out in the heat of the summer in Chile. People are sipping drinks out of glasses made out of ice in a bar, which is also made out of ice. Let’s take a look.

STORY:
Copying a handful of other concept bars in the United States, Europe and the Middle East, "Antarctic Ice Bar" is the first of a kind in Latin America. Guests have to put on parkas and gloves before entering. Everything inside is made out of giant chunks of ice, including the windows, the floor, the seating and the bar itself.

But how do they make the hundreds of ice glasses that are used each night? With chainsaws and large-diameter drills. Just take one block of ice, carve it in half, drill out the inside and you have a perfectly good cocktail glass.

[Michel Gonzalez, Bar Owner]:
"I lived in Switzerland for a very long time with my family and we made the decision to come here and make something new. And so just like the Ice Hotel in Switzerland, what better thing could we do but an Ice Bar in Chile?"

The bar is kept at a nippy minus five degrees Celsius. Guests are recommended not to stay longer than 45 minutes at a time.

[Claudia, Tourist]:
"It's amusing. Of course, after a few minutes the parka and the gloves don't help much, but it is really fun and unusual."

[Mario, Tourist]:
"This is February, its right in the middle of the summer in Viña del Mar and outside it’s around 18 to 20 degrees [Celsius] on the street and you come in here and I think it must be around 7 degrees below zero. It's
just insane."

Sweden's Ice Hotel, was the first to start the below-zero craze around the world. Soon after its construction, an Ice Bar was opened in Stockholm. Absolut Vodka paid to secure naming rights for the venture. Since then, other Absolut Icebars have debuted in London, Tokyo, Copenhagen and Shanghai.
