Chess and Bike Fanatic?

2008-10-21 19:28

STORY:
Even the most dedicated chess players have probably never thought of
practising some moves while riding a bike.

But German cycle fanatic Didi Senft has made it possible - with this chess
bike.

Senft first became well-known in Germany when he appeared at the Tour de
France in a devil's costume. In the past few years he's been known for his
crazy bike constructions.

And as the World Chess championships are currently being held in the
western city of Bonn, Senft wanted to create a bike for the occasion:

[Didi Senft, Bicycle Fanatic]:
"I've built a bicycle for three people. I steer the bike and two
people can play chess behind me. I chose the world championships in Bonn, as
it's been 74 years since they were last held here in Germany."

This isn't the first chess-inspired bike that Senft's come up with.

This one specifically commemorates the 12-game battle between the world
champion Viswanathan Anand of India, and Russian player Vladimir Kramnik, for
the world title, and 1.5 million euros prize money.

But you'd be probably be in need of a steady hand, rather than
champion-beating tactics, to play chess on Didi Senft's bike.
