CHAN:
On Sunday a Chinese professor from De Montfort University in the U.K. was denied entry into Hong Kong. Professor Li Shao believes he was kicked out of the country because he practices Falun Gong and has campaigned for the release of detained practitioners in the mainland. Here's more on the story.

STORY:
On the day of the Beijing Olympics’ closing ceremony, Professor Li Shao from De Montfort University in the UK arrived in Hong Kong as an independent examiner for the University of Central Lancashire. He was set to approve the degree certification of more than 100 students--but when he was refused entry, their degrees were delayed.

Professor Li believes he was deported because he's a Falun Gong practitioner and has campaigned to have his sister-in-law released from prison.

[Li Shao, De Montfort University]:
“I believe that I am on the Chinese Communist Party’s blacklist that's used for preventing dissidents from going to China during the Olympic Games.”

The chairman of the Hong Kong Alliance says Li's deportation points to a larger problem of blacklisting by the Chinese Communist Party.

[Hua Situ, Hong Kong Alliance]:
“We see that the current Hong Kong government is fully bowing to the Chinese Communist government. It has sparked criticism that the policy of ‘one country, two systems’ has been destroyed. I think this kind of criticism is absolutely right.”

Hua is not optimistic about the CCP becoming a more open country now that the Olympics are over.

[Hua Situ, Hong Kong Alliance]:
“The Chinese Communist government's dictatorial nature has not changed, it is hostile to democracy, freedom, human rights and the rule of law. Especially after the Olympics, some of the social contradictions which were covered up during the Olympic Games will soon be exposed again.”
